My New Passion

How my new passion took me to Pondicherry & it was Runderful

In August 2017, I said that the only time you’d ever find me running was if Godzilla were chasing me. Then, 6 months later, I ran a half marathon on February 2018. Due to work pressures and lifestyle changes, the only form of good workout for me was swimming and that too was seasonal, I definitely couldn’t run a single mile in a row. To my surprise that all changed way sooner than I had expected.

On 15th August 2017, I was shocked, frustrated and felt terrified; it all seemed pointless on first day of my run. However, I decided to stick to it & with a few more runs things started looking better, I could track my improvements and was able to do more with each run. All these while I kept reminding myself what JK Rowling Said “ Remember the first rule of self-improvement – Always have achievable goals.” and in next 100 days I was able to do 6k and 10k and it felt great. There was a change in my attitude; I was more open to new challenges, all thanks to my newfound Passion.

I kept hearing about the adventures of a runners group called Let’s Run in my city. A few months back 26 members of this group had successfully accomplished the half marathon at Ladakh, which not only intrigued but also excited me at the same time, as I had never imagined of doing a marathon.  I soon joined “Lets run” and made new friends, while running along side them I learnt a lot about running. One fine day “Sunil Babu” asked me about my interest to join for Auroville Marathon at Pondicherry on Feb 2018, followed which he saw the biggest smile on my face.

With so much momentum built up for the Auroville Run, I had no other option but to put all my efforts to train for the “Big Day”. The six of us started our journey from Raipur to Pondicherry (via Hyderabad & Chennai) and before reaching Pondicherry our journey of fun and excitement had already begun. Starting from south Indian delicacies to round of beers, all we did was talk & talk, which then followed with an outburst of laughter; we sure were the nosiest passengers through out the trip. As soon as we reached Pondicherry we wasted no time & straight away head out on our two wheelers to explore the city. The feel of the city was marvelous, we were in Indian but it didn’t felt like it, the beaches were neat, weather was pleasant and people were gentle to talk, no wonder its called “French Polynesia of India”. We spent 3 nights at Pondicherry, and on 3rd day we had our Auroville Marathon.

The night before the “Big Day” I was a bit nervous as this being my first

marathon run and I had traveler too far to attain this bliss. The performance pressure let me to retire early in evening where as the rest of the gang were busy chilling around till late night. On the day of event we all kicked of at 6:30 am and with all the fortune stars on my side I took 2:23 minute(s) to finish my first half marathon. It was my moment of blissful, soulful & Runderful experience, thankfully I didn’t missed on the opportunity to click a selfie to treasure it as a memory.

We have so many stories from the trip to share but I am sure I wont do justice to it writing them down here, one has to be involved in the story telling sessions which we have after our morning runs. Now when looking back to the trip to reflect on the event, it feels nothing less than a new school trip to me where you go on behalf of your school to participate for a tournament along with your new friends. Where the journey itself was so fulfilling the result of the tournament was never a worry, thanks to the Team Lets Run without which this would not have happened to me.

My Run – My Story

Last November I got the opportunity to run in the Marathon organised by Letsrun team. As soon as I reached that venue the whole aroma was sensitizing and elative…endorphins were out on the track even before the run by the Rock music..a smart Event Jockey and that gives a good warm up .

The Class of people was so friendly and boost ups. All had come not to see any celebrity or hear any lecture of a leader but JUST TO RUN.

Time management was excellent. The way the DJ went along with us for first kilometer gave a good pace (although I missed it later on when the lactic acid made the calves cry 😣).

Although the finish line seemed very far in last few minutes and was thinking to ask for a lift… but alas no vehicles allowed there😉… then saw Dr Vinod Tiwary Sir clapping to all & that was enough to limp up to the finish line.. BRAVO.. And then met my friend Dr Alok Dixit, a seasoned runner, and after a selfie with him as was ready to say bye to him, he to my surprise said… “Breakfast le ke jaa”… Hunger pangs were equally rhyming with the calf pain.. so the offer made me walk pace to pace with Dr Alok to the Grand feast… it was so hygienic and nourishing… I had forgotten all table manners as if a lion gets a deer after a long hunt.

Then, Dr Vinod Tiwary Sir & other seniors of Letsrun team stood for hours patiently to give medals to all of us… felt as it I have won Olympic Gold 😁

The registration fees was actually very nominal seeing the facilities provided. It can be increased further so that the team is not at loss.. Diabetes & Hypertension after all comes with money.. so spending few chips ultimately saves more when it comes to health.

Why I wished to write it all today & not earlier because I am seeing that most other local marathons are not up to the mark. They neither serve the purpose for which they aim… nor do they convey the message for health properly…. just think if you want to spread the message for Swacch Bharat and you are asking all to run… all the trash of T-shirts thrown on roads, the disposables of water thrown helter shelter by the participants… after the event the whole scene is dirtier than before.. No bio toilets.. all can be seen peeing road sides.. poor ladies cant dare even that.

Marathon should be reserved to spread the message of health.. Nice aesthetic disciplined atmosphere like LetsRun leaves an aura of happiness at the end which tempts the participants to return to the track next time.. fitter & slimmer.

It will be great if the team garlands the finishers with medals as soon as they reach finish line ..they can take selfies soon after.. it will save time and energy of participants and organizers..

Waiting to meet u all in the next event.. till then Run..n..Rock..n…Roll ..

Kudos Dr Vinay and Team

Fit Women Make Healthier Nations

On this International Women’s Day, I want to highlight attention on the importance of regular physical activities and health awareness for women.

PicsArt_11-12-02.58.46Women all over the world have come a long way, constantly breaking the glass ceiling, distinguishing themselves in various fields. However, they generally tend remain nonchalant about their health after a particular point of time.

There just doesn’t seem to be enough time to accomplish everything. And by trying to play too many roles  for  achieving an A+ in every aspect , they forget to  realize, that there exists another relationship, with yourself!

No matter how hectic your routine is, cut yourself some slack and create time for your own fitness regime and healthy habits.

Family and the society must also support and encourage more women to take up fitness activities. But, the most important  freedom is to be what you really are…There cannot be any large-scale revolution until there’s a personal revolution, at an individual level And, It’s got to happen inside first!

So ladies, Push yourselves out of the bed, Put on your shoes and kill it on the run!

Work Hard, Eat Clean and Stay Fit!

LETSRUN – The Bunch of Mischievous Retards

A great year has come to an end, fabulous one as i came in contact with an amazing Letsrun group created by Dr. Vinay Tiwary. I knew him as my elder brothers friend. I followed his running posts on Facebook which were truly motivating. I met him while running on the streets of Kamimg_20160814_164044al Vihar and instantly joined the running community Letsrun. My first run with LetsRun group on 13th Feb. 2016, of 6km at Pt. Ravi Shankar University was purely exciting with the encouragement and guidance of Dr. Tiwary & co-runners I managed to finish my run. That was the start of my new journey from a beginner to marathoner.

Pungi Poze

My next milestone was the first half marathon by LetsRun where in I attempted running 10 kms…..was very nervous but managed to finish in 61 mins 24 secs which was a fairly good time as a beginner. Every one from the group patted me for the timing.

I became a part of all the closed runs organised by LetsRun and thats how gradually on 21st May 2016 i managed to finish my first 21 kms in 2 hrs 46 mins 19 secs. My mind and my body was all set to finish the given target.

My co-runner was Mr. Pankaj Agrawal who motivated me all through the track without bothering about his own pace and time. Warm hugs, handshakes & patting on my shoulders by fellow runners acted as muscle relaxants for me. Three months of running with the group and my accomplishment was a half marathon…….what a proud feeling.

And then came another 21 kms with a better pace and of course a better time in our next TOWN & COUNTRY RUN (Bhatagaon). Now 21 kms was a child’s play for me.

The best part about all these runs was that Dr. Tiwary always maintained the discipline of time. The community was not just about running……as very correctly said by Dr. Tiwary the group was about enjoying food, the nature, reliving childhood days, running in rains & many more such things. Gradually early morning runs were something i couldn’t do without…..and guess what i lost a few kgs……good ones.

Our 1st big event THE CANAL RUN  was an open event and i was fortunate enough to be a part of the core working committee. The event was a super duper hit and we had managed to motivate the Raipurians. LetsRun community was the talk of the town.

By now we had lot of enthusiastic runners joining the community. So our SUPER GURU Dr. Vinay Tiwary gave us a pleasant surprise by completing his first full marathon 42.192 kms to be precise……..a benchmark that each one of us wanted to achieve. And bang on within a months time we had two more full marathoners in the community…..Proud to announce that one was Mr. Himanshu Sahu & the other one was ME. The full marathon was truly mentally and physically challenging.

LetsRun community ended the year by giving the first RFID timed half marathon to Raipur. It was a group effort of each and every member of the core working committee along with the Hyderabad team. We had runners joining us from all over the country………..children adults oldies and also people on wheelchair accompanied by an escort. The event was a box office Salman khan hit…………..No ifs no buts only super-success. We had more than 800 runners participating enthusiastically with us.

My heart felt thanks to Dr.Vinay Tiwary for being my guide my mentor my guru……without whom i could have never been on the road to run. Thank you 2016 for introducing me to the LetsRun community and eagerly waiting for all the 2017 activities.

I would like to complete my write-up with my run statistics.

  • Year 2016 – 8 times 21kms, single 42.61 kms and a total of 900kms.
  • My resolution for 2017 – 1310kms in total, 18 times 21kms and 3 times 42kms
